God's Callgirl - A Memoir

Author: Carla Van Raay

At the age of 18, Carla van Raay entered a convent to devote her life to God. By 35 she was earning her living as a prostitute. As a child, Carla van Raay experienced a trauma that changed her forever. Burdened by the weight of this terrible secret, all she wanted to do was survive. Life as a nun promised refuge from the outside world. Carla hoped to find love and understanding within the convent walls. Instead she became enmeshed in a complex system of regulations that drove her to the brink of madness. Finally released from her vows, she escaped back into the 'real' world. A hasty marriage and separation left Carla with a daughter to support. With few professional skills to rely on from her years as a nun, she turned to another age-old profession - prostitution. She worked as an escort to learn the ropes, then struck out on her own, setting up a massage service. God's Callgirl was born. When eventually the seamier side of the business began to assert itself, Carla embarked on a journey to uncover the dark secret of her past.

This book was a gift from Steph's company trip to Australia. One of the many novels i will definitely get my hands on if i see it. It's such an extraodinary frank account of the personal experiences of the author, a book of extremes. Another fantastic book added to my collection!!
Thanks alot girl!!! =D

~~ 26th February 2006 ~~

Dar & me celebrated our 2nd anniversary.
How time flies!!

Can't believe we survived through all the crazy projects, quizzes and examinations in school. He would always make sure that i studied and stay away from computer games during examination period, yet he would be sleeping away while i'm studying, and still end up scoring better than me. How unfair!!

Then there would be times when there are pop quizzes during lectures, which i knew i was going to fail, that he would dropped me some answers to help me passed them. hahaa...

Then came all the presentations, final-year projects, and student-internship programmes. He actually help me to complete 1/4 of my final-year report because i kept procastinating, and i would help him to edit & rephrase his, because his language is just plain bad!! haa...

Just like that, our poly years just flashed past.

Following that was his NS life, and me working. Witnessed dardar entering his NS life, pledging his NS oath. Toughest period i would say, especially his BMT period. Phones calls at night only became a norm.

As the saying goes, "If the going gets tough, the tough gets going"

So we survived through his BMT period, passing out parade, and entered another NS phase in his life. He was posted to Nee Soon camp to train as a combat medic, and had completed his training since. Almost every weekend was spent STUDYING with him about bandages and first aid skills.... his weekly testSSS ...and 1 month zoomed passed just like that.

Now dar's posted to Changi Air Base.
Has yet to see what's installed for us. Lots of duties i heard. >.<"

We turned 21 this year, together too!!
Received our keys to adulthood. =D

Oh well, there's still a long journey down the road.

Shall end this entry quoting from my cousin's blog.

Went out for my company dinner tonight.
It's a dinner treat from my QA supervisor who's being promoted to be our new boss, and also a farewell dinner to the current one.

We had authentic south indian food for dinner, recommended by our senior pharm tech colleague. This resturant, Anjappar Authentic Chettinaad Resturant, which is located along Race Course Road in Little India, served really yummy south indian food!!!

They serve very nice fish nasi biryani and cheese naan!!
There was this dish, which i forgot its name.... It's deep-fried cauliflower with abit of spices.
First look at it, one wouldn't even know it's cauliflower!! The dish comes in completely red in colour, and doesn't taste like vegetables at all. It's crispy on the outside, yet tender cauliflower on the inside. It's something different, yet delightful to the taste bud. Yet to try their thosai and mastala tea.

I'm sooo going back there!!!
=D

Dardar's 21st birthday may seems rather simple. Just a close gathering with friends and family. But that's just exactly the way he likes it.

It's been quite a while since i last update my blog....

Been blog-hopping around, and realised that so many of my coursemates are leaving for Aussie this few weeks.

Majority of them are able to get their Bachelor of Science degree from a recognised university in one year!! *envy*
By November they will be back in Singapore with a degree in science, and me...?
A diploma *pui!!*

Got to know from them that it cost a total of about 50k SGD, for just 1 year like that. That is....provided that your results in poly is good enough to permit you to get a degree in 1 year.

I know i would be able to do the same, if only i had the financial assistance to do so...

My results are about the same as my other friend, and she got to get a degree in 1 year!!! >.<
